GATE: The Apex Exam for M.Tech Admissions and PSU Recruitment
The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a highly challenging national-level examination primarily conducted for admission to Master of Technology (M.Tech), Master of Science (M.S.), and direct Ph.D. programs in premier institutions like the IITs, IISc Bangalore, and NITs. Beyond academics, a top GATE score is also the mandatory eligibility criterion for recruitment into prestigious Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) across India.
GATE is jointly conducted and coordinated by the seven original IITs and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, on a rotational basis.

The Dual Significance of the GATE Score
A high GATE score provides two main career pathways:
Academic Excellence: A valid score (typically 3 years) is mandatory for securing M.Tech/M.S. admission with a monthly stipend (through the Ministry of Education scholarship) at IITs, NITs, and other government-funded technical institutions.
Public Sector Jobs: It is the primary shortlisting criterion for direct recruitment to Group A level posts in top PSUs like IOCL, NTPC, ONGC, and more, offering secure and high-paying government jobs.
